Remixes Completed in 2010

During the course of 2010, in addition to working on the Pulse State album, then stopping to work with my good friends in D:Konstruct on our new D:K album for a few months, I have made a few remixes. Here's some information on them!

First up: In January, I remixed Ted Cikowski's song "Masterpiece". I did some production work on this song in late 2009, so it was decided that I should also do my own take on it. It is a song that tells the tale of deceit and betrayal by someone the narrator once considered a close friend, hence the name I gave my remix ("Trustkiller Rework by Pulse State"). It came out sounding a bit like melodic trance, as Ted and I both have an affinity for the sound. Release information is forthcoming.

A few months later, Josh McAllister from Function13 offered his newest oeuvre, "What Do You Mean?", for remixing to me and a few other acts. I seized upon this opportunity to do an electro-house/trance version of the song with the BPM count increased slightly, as his highly autotuned vocals lent themselves very well to that sound. I saw the lyrics as a plaintive dismissal to someone with whom the narrator wants to be close. I am sure most can relate, and so I named my remix accordingly -- "Bittersweet Rework by Pulse State". I finished it in July, and it will be released along with the single. In addition, Josh and Jervon have shot a band performance video that goes along with the original version; the video will be released concurrently.

Lastly, as of a few hours ago, Joshua from Aimonia received my newest remix; it is of the Aimonia cut "Pixels". In its original form, it is an industrial/EBM cut that reminds me of just how good some of the bands in the mid 1990's were, but with updated production. I raised the BPM count a bit and made it instead carry a darkwave feel with hints of EBM-pop. This took me a long time to do because I had a very specific idea for what I wanted my remix to sound like, and I would not let it leave the Central Command studio until I was satisfied that that idea had been fulfilled. This one is called the "Degradation Rework by Pulse State", and will appear at some point in the future.

I am still open for one or two more remixes before 2010 is out, so if you wish to have me take a shot at your song, contact me and I will do my best to accommodate you!

2010

A new year is upon us. This new year means a new Pulse State album! Follow the "click to read more" link below, as this one is LONG!

After letting it sit for a while, going over the mix meticulously and running it by some people, I will be entering final production phase on Regression this month. I believe that this is my most diverse work yet, musically and lyrically. The beats are slower overall (on the songs that even have them!), but I hope everyone will enjoy it. Here's the deal with that, though: I do not know how it will be released yet. I am weighing all options, including self-release on CD and/or paid digital. One thing I will not do is another free release, so be prepared to pay a small bit to support me in my endeavors if you would be so kind :)

As for remixes and other external work (except what is noted below): Local acts Ted Cikowski and Eprom Colony have both signed on to work with Pulse State. After I produced one of his tracks in the late stages of 2009, Ted has a song that is getting a Pulse State remix treatment; and Doc from Eprom Colony requested some other things from me. I'd also like to move more into the production realm as time goes on... we'll see.

There is also another collaboration that I cannot announce yet but I hope will see the light of day in 2010. I have to wait to say anything about that, though. It's a secret :)

Viva la D:Konstruct! I am still a member of Robert Vandergriff's long-running electronic dance project, as I have been since April 2009, and I am currently mixing and tweaking D:Konstruct's third album bearing the title Stars Burning Out. With this album, we have taken the band's sound to the next level, appealing not only to the old melodic EBM crowd but also to the New Wave revivalists. I am proud to be a part of this project and when I am finished with what I am doing and we have a release date set in stone, I will most certainly cross-post it here. Fans of Pulse State will love the D:Konstruct sound as well!

Finally (as if all this were not enough for a guy with a 45-hour-a-week day job), I have begun writing some tracks for a possible side-project. I have three or so tracks that will not fit in with the Pulse State sound, so within the year you may see these released. It's too early to tell, but these sound so good to me that I would hate to have these languish on my hard disk. Stay tuned...

That sums up everything I've got planned, and of course, I am always open to new and exciting ventures. Give me a shout if you are interested in working with me or even just having me do a remix, and above all, have a wonderful and productive 2010!

New Remix Completed

I have just put the finishing touches on a special remix for the Bolivian act Die With You. It is for their track "Alone".

Expect a classic Pulse State remix with some signature touches. The band's dramatic South American vocals have been fused to a catchy musical backing. Thanks for this opportunity, gentlemen!

Release information will be posted when I receive it!

New Live Video Posted

One of the videos from Pulse State's most recent live show is up. It's a new song called "Flowers for Mankind", and should give a taste of what is to come on the next album. The stage setup was minimal, but the sound makes up for it!

Head over to Media -> Videos to watch it!

Here's some great news that was just found out: Solitary Experiments has picked three winners from their recent remix contest, and Pulse State is among them!

Here's the list of acts whose remixes of "Rise and Fall" will be included on the bonus disc:

1st - ES23
2nd - Pulse State
3rd - Reizstrom

Thanks to Dennis, Steve and Micha from SolEx for giving us this opportunity at letting our remixes be heard! This next album of theirs, In the Eye of the Beholder, should be a great release and I urge you to bag a copy when it comes out.

State of the Union Remix Accepted!

State of the Union has picked the Pulse State remix of "Dancing in the Dark" as one of the winners to appear on the (now greatly expanded!) upcoming Dancing in the Dark maxi-single! Originally, there were only supposed to be two winners, but they ended up with so many good remixes that they have decided to put many more on the disc. It should be rather exciting to hear some of these!

Please head over here for more information.

Welcome to the New Site!

Welcome to the new PulseState.com site! I will be tweaking it here and there over time, but if there's something you want to see, please don't hesitate to let me know.

This site was made possible by using the Silverstripe CMS. I recommend it; it does require editing some files along the way, but it is one of the most easily customizable CMSes with which I have ever worked.

More content is on its way!
